Getting Started

What is React?

React is a JavaScript library used to build user interfaces, especially for web applications. It was created by Facebook and is now maintained by Meta and a large community of developers. Instead of working with full web pages like in traditional HTML, React lets you build small, reusable components that control parts of the UI like buttons, forms, or entire sections.

Why React Over Plain JavaScript?

When starting with web development, many developers begin with plain JavaScript to create interactive websites. It works well for simple tasks like toggling a menu, validating a form, or showing alerts. However, as your application becomes more complex like building a dynamic dashboard, or an e-commerce site plain JavaScript starts to show its limitations.

Why Do We Use React in Projects?

    ✅ Component-Based Architecture

In plain JavaScript, there's no built-in concept of “components.” You might have to copy-paste the same structure multiple times or build custom functions to create similar UI parts.

React introduces components—self-contained, reusable blocks of UI. Each component:

  • Has its own logic
  • Can manage its own state
  • Can be reused and composed with other components
For example, a Button, Header, or TodoItem can be individual components. This keeps your code modular and easier to maintain.

⚡ Fast Updates with Virtual DOM

In plain JavaScript, any change to the UI requires manual DOM updates. This gets slow and error-prone when you have to update multiple parts of the UI based on user input or API responses.

React uses a Virtual DOM - a lightweight copy of the real DOM.

    🌍 Large Ecosystem

Plenty of libraries (e.g., React Router, Redux), tools, and tutorials available.

    👥 Community Support

React has huge developer support and job opportunities.

React doesn’t replace JavaScript—it builds on top of it. You still need to know JavaScript fundamentals to use React well. But once you step into building dynamic, data-driven web applications, React provides a faster, cleaner, and more scalable way to build and maintain your UI than plain JavaScript ever could.
